Intelligence, Informatics and Infrastructure welcomes original research that applies artificial intelligence, data science, and informatics to civil engineering and infrastructure. These instructions explain how to prepare and submit your manuscript and summarise the policies that govern publication; please also read our Peer Review, Publication Ethics, and Open Access & Copyright pages.

Article Types

Original Paper — theoretical or experimental research presenting new findings and significant contributions.

Review Paper — comprehensive surveys summarising the current status and future directions of a topic.

Technical Paper — practical applications, case studies, and implementation reports.

Invited Papers — contributions invited by the Editorial Board; subject to the same peer review.

Translated / Secondary Publications — English versions of work previously published in another language, subject to disclosure and the conditions in the Peer Review policy.

Manuscript Preparation

Prepare your manuscript using the official Word template, which applies all required styles automatically. Key elements:

  • Language: English
  • Layout: Single column, A4
  • Title: Concise and specific
  • Abstract: ≤ 300 words, unstructured
  • Keywords: 3–6 terms
  • Highlights: 3–5 short bullet points
  • Sections: Use the heading styles (IMRaD)
  • Equations: Word equation editor, numbered
  • Figures: ≥ 300 dpi (vector preferred)
  • ORCID: Provide for all authors where possible

Required Statements

Every manuscript must include the following statements (the template provides labelled sections):

  • Author Contributions (using CRediT roles)
  • Funding (sources and grant numbers, or a statement that none was received)
  • Conflicts of Interest
  • Data Availability and, where applicable, Code Availability — see the Data, Code & AI policy
  • Generative-AI disclosure, where AI tools were used

Citations & References

References follow the APA (7th edition) style. Use author–date citations in the text and list references alphabetically by surname with a hanging indent.

In text: … as shown in recent work (Chun, 2023; Izumi & Chun, 2024).

Reference: Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (Year). Title of the article. Journal Name, Vol(Issue), pp–pp. https://doi.org/xxxxx

The Word template includes worked APA examples for journal articles, conference papers, books, datasets, and web sources.

Copyright, Licence & Fees

On acceptance, copyright is transferred to the Japan Society of Civil Engineers; your article will be published under the CC BY 4.0 licence, and authors retain self-archiving (Green OA) rights. A single APC of JPY 27,500 (incl. tax) is charged after acceptance; there are no submission, page, or colour charges.

Preprints are welcome. You may post your manuscript on a recognised preprint server or repository of your choice (e.g., arXiv, Jxiv, J-STAGE Data) before or during submission; please disclose it on submission. This is not treated as prior publication.

Submission Checklist

Before submitting, confirm that:

  • The manuscript fits the journal's aims & scope
  • The official template was used
  • All authors have approved the submission
  • It is not under consideration elsewhere
  • Any prior publication / preprint is disclosed
  • Conflicts of interest are declared
  • Funding sources are stated
  • Data / code availability statements are included
  • Any use of generative AI is disclosed
  • Permissions for third-party material are obtained
